Statement on the suspension of Moscow's membership from the Cities Coalition for Digital Rights

In November 2019 Moscow joined the Cities Coalition on Digital Rights, in doing so endorsing the values the network represents: upholding human rights in the digital age.

With the Russian invasion of the free and independent state of Ukraine on 24 February 2022 and the subsequent closure of all independent media in Russia, the core principles of freedom of expression and democracy can no longer be upheld.

Due to this situation the Coalition has decided to suspend Moscow’s membership of the network. This suspension is effective immediately until further notice.
Accordingly, the logo of the city of Moscow from the website has been removed.

In the name of the City of Barcelona and the City of Amsterdam,
As co-founding cities and those responsible for the management of the Coalition
