The City of Atlanta is committed to help protect and uphold the human rights on the internet of our constituents through the Coalition of Cities for Digital Rights.
As a member, we commit to acting collectively and on a global scale to solve shared challenges and opportunities related to the following five principles.
- Universal and equal access to the internet, and digital literacy;
- Privacy, data protection and security;
- Transparency, accountability, and non-discrimination of data, content and algorithms;
- Participatory Democracy, diversity and inclusion; and
- Open and ethical digital service standards.
Department of Atlanta Information Management (“AIM”) has plans or has already implemented the following in support of these five principles:

Universal and equal access to the internet, and digital literacy
- Plans to commit to universal broadband
- Public education campaigns to increase digital literacy and awareness

Privacy, data protection and security
- Plans to publish a data protection policy
- Plans to finalize a policy to protect data privacy and security

Transparency, accountability, and non-discrimination of data, content and algorithms
- Plans to create or maintain digital portal to share open data
- Published open data related to city services and technologies

Participatory Democracy, diversity, and inclusion
- Leverage existing technology platforms to increase participation in government processes
- Plans to ensure our digital platforms are accessible

Open and ethical digital service standards
- Implemented Ethical Digital Standards over IoT devices, by signing on to a commitment to common principles for the responsible and equitable deployment of the Internet of Things, led by the City of New York on September 26, 2016.
