With officials from the Equity Office and other departments at the City of Austin, the University of Texas – Austin hopes to explore how to mitigate racial biases in AI technologies that a city might use as well as explore policies to guide how cities use AI. This important research represents the value and spirit intended by the UT and City of Austin partnership for bringing value to our residents and to communities around the world. The City of Austin and UT-Austin are interested in partnering with other cities and universities on this collaboration.

RUDI stands for Rennes Urban Data Interface, an ambitious project to develop a platform that will facilitate data-sharing among different partners and citizens in the Metropolitan Region of Rennes. The project, which started in 2019 aims to go beyond GDPR compliance into being an exemplary project of portability, automation and citizen’s engagement, where they can view and manage access to the data by the city and other parties. The city is developing different packages to navigate the various challenges they are facing in terms of governance, communication and technical features and is set to last until 2021. |

The Office of Civic Innovation is building upon their previous work with the Justice Lab and developing quick response services, utilizing data analytics and developing program innovation in reducing homelessness in Long Beach.Reducing homelessness and increasing affordable housing is a top priority for the City of Long Beach. The toolkit is based on a six-step process to help implement crowd monitoring in a fast and effective way. |

STEMinthecity is an initiative launched in 2017 by the Municipality of Milan - with public and private sector partners - to remove the cultural stereotypes that distance girls from STEM studies. The goal is to reduce the gender gap in the STEM disciplines and encourage young people, especially young women, to pursue careers in STEM fields. Girls with a scientific background can increase their employment opportunities and reduce gender bias in the technology industry and digital transformation policymaking. STEMinthecity includes free courses, debates, events, and technical sessions from Primary school up to University. Since its launch in 2017, it has involved about 27.000 young people. The project is replicable in every City: engage your ecosystem, develop public-private partnerships, and gather young minds as they are the engine of innovation. |

Donations from technology and telecommunications companies are going to help connect 25 large residential apartment buildings in low-income neighbourhoods with temporary free internet access for one year. |
